Hi, I am buying a farm and plan to buy some cows. I will be buying a barn and hay and wish to use these as private ranch raising livestock.
Do I need to be LLC
? I will raise poultry, livestock and fishery and I would like info on how to obtain a wholesale distributor license to sell feed for livestock. I need to get my business license through the county first.
Furthermore, I would like to open a livestock business. Yes, I will be filing as sole owner but would like to set up an LLC
as one owner. What licenses do I need? Do I need a business license for farming (Livestock) ?
A: Hi Cameron, you don't need an LLC
, but it is your best bet to avoid personal liability.
To start a business in NC for livestock business, first get your LLC
certificate and the LLC
operating agreement.
Then, get an EIN and a business license. Since you are selling livestock and livestock items, you need a sales tax ID also called a seller's permit.
In addition, after you register your business, you will need an animal transfer license as well as a USDA license.
